Diana Steelman

Recording Secretary

Hello! My name is Diana Steelman, I am a graphic designer and scientific illustrator from Brooklyn, NY. With a robust educational background and diverse professional experience, I am excited to apply for the role of Recording Secretary for the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators (GNSI). My leadership experience as well as my journey in the realm of design and illustration equipping me with the skills and dedication necessary to excel in this role.

I hold a BFA in Graphic and Information Design from Northeastern University, which provided me with a solid foundation in the fundamentals of graphic design as well as strong organizational and management principles. In leadership roles at Northeastern, I served as the Head of UX Design for Sandbox NU and as the Creative Director for Woof Magazine. These positions required me to lead teams, manage projects, and ensure the delivery of creative and functional designs. My leadership style is collaborative and inclusive, always aiming to bring out the best in my team members.

Recently, I completed a Master's in Scientific Illustration from the Universidad del País Vasco in Bilbao, Spain. This program deepened my expertise in various types of scientific illustration, including biology, zoology, medical, and paleontology, among others.
Because of this amazing program, I fell in love with the world of Scientific Illustration and was very excited to discover and join the GNSI once I returned to the United States.
Professionally, I am currently a Production Designer at Estée Lauder in New York, where I design and produce digital assets for marketing campaigns, ensuring they align with the brand's high standards. My previous roles, at Marshalls, Boston College Football, and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, have further honed my skills in a variety of different styles of digital design and project management.

My freelance work, notably the botanical illustration for a project working with Craft and Forge's and Harney and Sons, shows my commitment to detailed and high-quality illustration work. Additionally, my volunteer experiences, such as designing a new
website for The Asylum Support Clinic and distributing food with CHiPS in Brooklyn, reflect my dedication to community service and social impact.

My diverse experiences and dedication to the field of scientific illustration make me a strong candidate for the Recording Secretary position at GNSI. I am passionate about contributing to the organization's mission and supporting its members through effective communication and meticulous record-keeping.
