John Cody received the Special Service Award in 2012 for his long-term dedication to the Guild. Over many years, John was dedicated to long-term support and volunteer efforts on behalf of GNSI. He taught many workshops and contributed many presentations on a wide and fascinating range of subjects. He donated fine art prints and originals of his work to the Guild auctions, allowing people within the field of natural science illustration to experience living with his artwork on their walls. This would not have been possible without his great generosity. He attended many a GNSI annual conference and was a pillar of the Guild for decades.
John became a GNSI member in 1995. After encountering a moth at the age of five, he realized his lifelong passion for painting moths and later became revered as "The Audubon of Moths". Dr. John Cody passed away on July 11, 2016 at the age of 91.
