Over the past 30 years Deb has worked at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, singularly and with teams, exploring use of new technologies to develop educational materials at the college. Beginning in the early 90s of web for online instruction, distance learning to the more current aspects of use of gaming style applications to determine their benefits.
Prior to receiving her MFA from the University of Michigan Medical and Biological Illustration program in 1990, she worked to develop start up programs within a hospital (Cultural Arts Program and Art Therapy Cart), worked with the YWCA and government to develop the first after-school program in the state of Indiana and has worked as teacher-volunteer with the Indiana Arts and the Handicapped program. Her first training in medical illustration was at the Craig Gosling School of Medical Illustration (IUPUI). She has worked in both human and veterinary medical settings as well as the medical legal field throughout her career with a goal that illustrations, whether 2-D, 3-D or interactive must revolve around accuracy in content, clarity in concept as well as artistic rendering to engage and educate the intended audience. She has been a member of boards including the AMI, her church, and has held leadership roles for positions within the university.
Family and friends are a big part of her life, whether two-legged or four-legged, all creatures are welcome.
Deb has been a member of the GNSI since 1989.
