To be eligible for consideration, applicants must submit at portfolio of 10-20 images, a statement of purpose, transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. We strongly encourage applicants to submit digital illustrations as well as traditional work, as we are now requiring potential graduate students to enter the program with some prior experience with the Adobe Creative Suite or similar digital arts software.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in science, and must be able to demonstrate a strong background in representational drawing, as well as a developed sense of aesthetics. Other degrees are eligible for admission if the portfolio exhibits keen observational skills and if the applicant can demonstrate a strong interest in and understanding of science.
For undergraduates, graduate students, or members of the community interested in building their skills in science illustration, we offer condensed summer courses in field sketching, botanical illustration, marine illustration, and digital illustration. All levels of experience are welcome.
