Scientific Illustration Certificate

Hi all,

I over heard some members talking about a scientific illustration certificate program that a branch of the guild was offering. I was wondering if the DC chapter had any plans on offering such a program?

If not, is there any programs in the DC/Northern VA/Maryland area that is similar? Or even an online program? Unfortunately, I can't afford to go back to school to get a degree at the moment. I'm interested in any classes or certifcate programs were I can at least start my education. Thank you!

Samantha

Hello Samantha,

the DC chapter of the GNSI doesn't have an immediate education offering. You can start planning ahead to attend the 2018 GNSI Annual Conference that will take place at the American University, July 15-21. The conferences boast opportunities to learn through presentations and workshops, network with other illustrators and share your work at the member's exhibition. Look for more information and a call for presenters in November 2017.

As far as in-person local programs you can check the Medical Illustration program at the Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore). Contact information for this program and many others in the U.S. and abroad can be found here: https://gnsi.org/resources/training/courses-science-illustration (this list is currently being updated and we expect to have a new version available in the Fall).

There aren't many online offerings but you may be interested in checking the Scientific Illustration Distance Program that will resume in September (https://www.gretchenhalpert-distanceprogram.com).

Best, Diana
