Interest in Art & Science in High School

Hello!  I am going to be starting my senior year in high school after the summer. I am interested in becoming a science illustrator, as I am an artist and I enjoy my scientific subjects, including geology, astronomy and human physiology. I was wondering if there was any advice that you could offer about working as a science illustrator. I would appreciate it a lot. Thank you!

I would recommend you read this description of Science Illustration Careers on the GNSI website:

Then I would suggest you look at the GNSI Forum on Education:

Both should be very useful in helping you decide if this is a direction for you. If you find yourself always trying to explain things visually, like realistic drawing, and pick up ideas quickly. Then Science Illustration may be for you.

The most important thing to remember is that you can use the skills of the science illustrator in many related graphic arts fields. A full-time job as a staff "science illustrator" can be a little hard to come by these days, but there is definitely a need for visual problem solvers in many industries. You will also want to learn computer graphic programs, and if you have some abilities with programing databases and multimedia programs, these will make you even more employable.

I hope that helps. If you have specific questions after reading the linked material above, we will be happy to answer you in more detail.
